We found out today that we are in a dry county, which odly enough doesn’t mean the complete absence of alchool, just that there are no stores you can buy it in though restaurants etc are still fair game. As we are on the road and have nice big empty fridges we went on a mission to find the nearest liquore store. When asked, the guy at the desk said “man, the closest one is way across town!” and he wasn’t wrong. We hit the interestate for about 10minutes, then took the exit to another interstate which we took until the second left. At this point we didn’t know which way to go, fortunately the cars in front of us did. They ALL turned and went down a little side street which led to The Stip. The Strip was just across the county line and was a series of seven or eight liquor stores all in row. There was neon and flashing arrows and gigantic three lane drive throughs, three was beer and wine and stores like Kwik Stop and Texas Beer Barn and Crossed Keys Liquor.
We actuallty did a drive by, we had to go around again and we were all laughing so hard that we couldn’t decide on a store. Finally we chose one and walked in, driving through just seemed wrong. I was actually impressed by their selection of beer and wine, but still no hard liquors, seems you can’t get those on a Sunday, though you can still get everything else. I’ll try and go back tomorrow and get some pictures it was just amazing! It really makes one wonder about the effectiveness of a Dry County when everyone can just drive a few minutes and still get everything they want.
Its raining rigt now, gigantic thunderboomers of a rain storm. I guess this means our chances of flying are pretty low. We are hopfully about tomorrow though, which would be nice. It wouild be great to finally finish this job and then head on to another state.
