Concert at Red Rocks!

I just got back from an awesome concert out at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison CO. It was a country fest with Eric Church (who?!), Gary Allan, and Dierks Bently (c: What a freakin’ show!

Red Rocks Amphitheater is set amid, you guessed it, red rocks. It is right in the middle of an amazing geological formation and holds probably 15,000 people. I heard about the concert on the radio yesterday and decided it sounded like fun, I’d seen Dierks earlier this year at Big Valley and I know he puts on an amazing show, besides, what else have I got to do out here? Much like the Bronco’s game yesterday I went out to the theater before I bought a ticket, and this almost proved disastrous! The line up of traffic was immense, it stretched back from the parking lot for over 2 miles! When I finally got in and parked I asked the nearest guy where box office was, and he told me it was 2mi back the way I’d came!! I lumped around for a while trying to decide if I should walk or drive and finally I heard the music start so I figured I’d better drive, that way I’d be able to get there faster…. which for once panned out. I got my ticket and parked in a new, and better, spot and hiked up the steep ramp into the show.

The theater was amazing to see, surrounded by huge standing red stones and built right into the mountainside it was filled with people screaming and clapping and having a great time. Before long, I was one of them! I walked around a little to get the lay of the land before settling down on one the landings off the side of the stairs and the main seating area, it was near the beer with a good view of the stage (c: From there I saw Gary Allan and Dierks both perform and they were amazing, as expected. Dierks did 2 encores and his high-energy style carried him through the entire show with lots of running and yelling and encouraging the audience, who were clearly loving him! I chatted with the people on either side of me, one was a girl (not drinking, so under 21?) with an injured leg who was trying to kick people with her good leg as they walked by and the other was a pair of friends from Grand Junction, the one lady had gotten the tickets for the other as a birthday present.

Red Rocks Amphitheater has got to be one of my all time favourite concert venues, I would love to see another show there! Oh, and did I mention that Gary Allan was shooting the video for his new single “Watching Airplanes” at this concert? Yup, he was, so if you see it on TV look for me (c:

*** Also,  I just noticed that my work laptop doesn’t have an SD port, so no pictures until I get a cable or something…  ***

Go Broncos!

I’m in Denver tonight, and what’s the best thing to do in Denver? Probably watch the Flames beat the Avalanche, but sadly the next game isn’t for a few weeks yet; so the second best thing was to go see the Broncos play!! Yeah, it was a good time, beer, bratwurst and even some nachos in the 2nd half. I kinda feel a little queasy from the nachos, but there is no regret! The Broncos whupped the visiting Arizona Cardinals by a few touchdowns but even still they were massively outplayed until the 3rd quarter. It was still a great game (c:

Tomorrow Dierks Bently is playing in Red Rocks and I think I’m gonna try and go; oh, and I have to go to work tomorrow too… but thats not nearly as much fun (c:

Other highlights from the day:

1) Hearing the cabbie that took me to the airport compare swingers clubs in Calgary and India and describing why the Indian ones were better

2) The rental car girl asking if “Alberta” was the name of my company while she is looking at my drivers license!

Climbing in the Ghost

Went climbing in the Ghost today for the very first time, and what a cool experience! I really liked it in there and it has now been bumped up in my list of places to return to. We only climbed a few easy ones on the Sentinel Triangle a 7, an 8 and a 9 but we were in the shade most of the time and it was decidedly chilly for August so we left it at that. Still, the view of Silver Tongued Devil across the valley was amazing as was the approach route to the summit of Black Rock Mtn.

The latest news on travel is that I’m leaving on Thursday for Texas and then off to Billings for a while as well. Nothing as exotic as Europe but these things ebb and flow and thats to be expected.

Chicago

I’m off to Chicago tomorrow for a two-day course on Management and Leadership through the American Management Assoc. I’m looking forward to it as I’ve never been to Chicago before, hopefully I’ll have some spare time there to do some sight seeing (c: I’ll be back again on Saturday.

Mt Lipsett

Today we hiked Mt. Lipsett in the Highwood Pass. I love that part of K-Country and am making an effort to get down there as often as possible. Read all about it here.

Going-to-the-Sun Highway

I did a quick trip down to Montana and Glacier National Park the last two days; mostly it was to ride the Going-to-the-Sun Highway (c: It was really fun, you can read all about it here.

Mt. Rae

I scrambled Mt. Rae today in the Highwood Pass area. It was challenging, frightening, and exhilarating; you can read the details here.
