Scotland

I just got back from a pub in Scotland… fantastic! I love Edinburgh. Tomorrow is the castle and who knows what else!

Pamplona Pt 2

Today is another day in Pamplona, sunshiny and blue-sky-y which stands in direct contrast to yesterday! It rained yesterday, poured, bucketed, drizzled, and generally got everything wet. It worked out ok though and most of th eday was spent walking in the rain or warming up with coffees in tiny cafes.

Tomorrow I fly Madrid-Edinburgh and  will spend a few days in Scotland before hooking up with Barry in Newcastle.

Pamplona

Yesterday was a travel day, train from Seville to Madrid and then a 6hr layover and another train to Pamplona. At the moment I’m sitting in a 17th century fortress surfing free wifi and waiting for Rob to show up. I think Pamplona is going to be a good city, it’s quiet here and close the mountains which I’m hoping to explore a little bit. Gah, rain, gotta go!

Seville

I’m in Seville tonight… I couldn’t get a train up to Madrid today since it was a holiday and I had to get out of Torremolinos! Seville is nice, I saw a church (surprise!) and a castle (surprise!) and also spent 45 minutes going in circles looking for my pension! It’s a rabbits den of roads here… but it’s great! At the moment I’m in a Tex-Mex place drinking Bud and getting free wireless (c: Strangely, it’s worth it.

Time off, time to go

Today is my last day of “work”, I’ve handed everything off and now it’s just a matter of making sure all the loose ends are tied up before I head out on my time off (c:

Tomorrow I’m heading to Madrid and then on to Pamplona to meet up with Rob, a buddy of mine from SAR. I considered staying in Madrid for the day but I really don’t feel like hanging around big cities at the moment so Pamplona it is. After that… I don’t really know yet. I’m going to Newcastle at some point and I fly out of London on Apr 10th back for Calgary!

Ronda and Casares

Today was another down day for us so it was another adventure day. Driving out of Torremolinos we went first to a small country road and then worked our way towards Ronda. It was an excellent drive, lots of mountains and some great scenery along the way including a man who might mistake for a communist, but he’s a forest warden I tell ya!

(as always clicky makes bigger)

He’s a forest warden, not a communist as you might assume

We arrived in Ronda and had a great lunch, for me it was pizza with a great thin crust and some nice topping, not too greasy. They have an amazing bridge there which I neglected to take pictures of so here is one from a Google image search (c:

After Ronda we took another small road down to Casares, founded by Caesar apparently and found a whitewashed village on the side of hill. Timing couldn’t have been better since the sun was just setting

So there ya go, an afternoon in Spain!

Alhambra – Granada Spain

Today was a down day since the weather was really rough up in the sky. We headed out to Granada to check out the ancient palace Alhambra, and what an afternoon!

In the eleventh century they discovered the ruins of an older castle and began construction on what would become one of the larges palaces in Europe. Throughout the building are spectacular examples of Arabic and Moorish art and architecture, everything is adorned with intricate carvings and sculpted gardens are offset by thick impenetrable fortifications.

There are a ton more pictures, just too many to post on the main page!
