Pacific Peak has been on the radar for a while, it’s a ‘centennial’ peak, one of the highest 100 peaks in Colorado and it’s really a beautiful peak.
2009-06-21 Crystal Colouir on Mt. Evans
After a great day of climbing with the Brutes and a BBQ at Jeff’s place by Golden Gate Canyon State Park we were originally planning on cruising out to Mt. Pacific and climbing the N Colouir. Since it was raining and we were feeling rather sleep deprived we decided on a shorter day close to home.

Lebowski on the Rocks
Went and saw “The Big Lebowski” last night out at Red Rocks, it was excellent. There were people dressed up in costume and all sorts of ridiculousness going on. Couple that with a crack-up of a movie and a great view of the stars and you’d be hard pressed to have a bad night.
2009-06-13 Dragon’s Tail Colouir – Flattop Mountain
Driving up from Denver towards Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) was a nice way to ease into the day. The highways were free of people and as we passed the west edge of Boulder the sun rose red against the eastern sky. Arriving at the Bear Lake parking lot nice and early we geared up and started moving.
The initial trail was paved, paved!, of all things but we made good time up to Nymph Lake, the first of 3 on this trail.

Skywalk Coulour N Arapaho Peak
The Indian Peaks Wilderness Area is an amazing part of the wold just West of Boulder CO. Set inside the Indian Peaks, and our goal for the day, is Arapaho Peak. Saturday was given over to SAR training (and maybe a pint at the Wild Mountain Smokehouse and Brewery in Nederland) so Sunday was climb day! We spent the night “camping” or doing a “truck-based bivy” at the Fourth of July Trailhead and woke at 4am to find everything covered with frost. After a quick mug of tea and some hearty oatmeal we set off around 5:15 and blasted up the trail.

Calgary Trip
I had an excellent week in Calgary last weekend, there was hiking ,bears, friends, family and all sorts of good things. 4 days was definitely too short, but it was really fantastic to see everyone. The next trip is planned for late July and will mostly be a climbing trip, but there are 3-4 days at the end of it that are purely for hanging out on decks!
Thanks to everyone that came out, it was really great to see all of you!
2009-05-28 Bourgeau Lake and Harvey Pass
Mt Bourgeau is one of those peaks that I’ve hiked on probably 4-5 times in my history, and it’s one I always enjoy returning too. This time our objecting was to scramble up to the summit (7-10 hrs according to Kane) and be home in time for dinner!
I had flown in from Denver the night before and arrived at 9:30 or so. The inevitable joyous family reunion was cut short I”m sorry to say as the plan for the next day was to be at the trail head by 6am and this meant a 3:30am wake up call!

Whew!
Wow, for about a week there I was afraid I’d lost the whole database and everything on JourneyingJon! I was moving from one host to another and had deleted some files I needed… oops! Fortunately the folks at DreamHost were amazing and everything is back to normal. I’m sure there will still be some tweaks I need to do to get it “perfect” but it sure is a lot better than having lost it all!
