Larch Valley – Canadian Rockies Photography

EiffelPinnacleWildFlowers

Larch Valley is an amazing locationĀ in the Canadian Rockies. Starting from the trailhead at Moraine Lake it doesn’t take long to wind your way up through the pines on a solid trail into an alpine world of Larch meadows. Today I was hoping that the Larches would be in their golden fall colours but I’d…

Marble Canyon – Canadian Rockies Photography

IMG_6036

Marble Canyon is a fantastic place. It’s a very accessible slot-canyon with an easy paved path right off Highway 93 South. The path starts out at the river level and before long you’re climbing up and up while the canyon and river drops beneath you. The rocks there have a great rusty-red colour and lend…

Nosehill Park – Calgary Outdoor Photography

I went for a walk around Nosehill park tonight, it’s a fantastic urban park here in Calgary with many great trails. We even ran into some wildlife.

Mt Kidd and Evan Thomas Creek – Kananaskis Country Alberta

We’re having great weather right now in the Canadian Rockies, clear blue skies and hardly any haze. Jamie and I went for a walk along Evan Thomas Creek in the north end of Kananaskis Country. From there you can get some great views of Mt Kidd.

Images from Banff – Canadian Rockies

I took some time this weekend and spent a full day in Banff. I love the mountain Parks, and Banff has some great scenery to offer.

This osprey nest is home to a female with three chicks and the male was in and out of the nest a few times while I was there. The female wasn’t too happy with me though and gave me the stare a few times.

The flowers in Banff this time of year are great, the fireweed and Indian Paintbrush are in full bloom.

Castle Mountain is one of my all time favourites. It’s a classic to me, you can see it all the way up Highway1 and over the years I’ve taken a lot of pictures of it but the right conditions thus far haven’t materialized. I think this one is close

Blackbirds – Wildlife of the Canadian Rockies

There is a stormwater catchment near my house that over time has turned into a swamp. It is a great place to find ducks, frogs, and all kinds of birds. The other night I went out and got some photos of the blackbirds that were dancing around each other.

Wildlife at Buller Pass

I went for a hike today up to Buller Pass an it was a great day for wildlife. There was a black bear with two cubs, and a beautiful wolf on the trail.

Backcountry Skiing near Lake Louise

Saturday I got out for some turns with a few good friends of mine. We found an area just west of Lake Louise that was north facing and wasn’t suffering too much sun crust. The snow was soft, the sky blue, and the skiing fantastic!

Spring Safety Article in Outdoor Photographer – Canadian Rockies Adventure Photography

We (Jonathan Neufeld and Keith Szlater) were published in the April 2011 edition of Outdoor Photographer.

Check out the Solutions: Spring Safety article on pg 94, it’s got some great information on avalanches, running water, and hypothermia. It’s the second article now that we’ve had published and hopefully there will be a few more on it’s heels.

Spray Lakes – Canadian Rockies Photography

I was out at the Spray Lakes today just south of Canmore. Weather was great with sunshine and lots of blowing snow. Here are some of the best pictures
